In 2015, I graduated California State University Channel Islands with a BA in Business Communications and today I have just as much of an idea of where my life is going, what’s next. I am one of those people that never knows where she’s going until she gets there, but it is always clear to me when I have arrived at my new destination. Take that however you want to. Whether that be a new career or an end to a good thing – I trust in the way the cookie crumbles. I constantly try to rebrand myself and my businesses. It keeps things crisp and fresh. However in the past year, my crumbling cookie has doubled in size. I have to solve problems that seem to have no solution. At least not fair and reasonable solutions. I feel like a frontier in a way, writing about issues that very few blind parents talk about with others. For example, going on a walk with a stroller and trying to be safe. How am I to cross the street safely when I have to juggle a stroller and a cane? Most people I have talked to have suggested I get a nanny. That’s not my style. I had problems letting people clean my house, so I don’t think having a nanny would be any different for my control problems. My solution is to do nothing. That is not my style either. Another hurdle I am facing is traveling with a car seat using Uber/Lyft services. Currently I utilize a magical little thing called a Doona. If you don’t know what that is, it is a stroller that transforms into a car seat. There is nothing else like it on the market and it is crazy expensive. The stroller/car seat will only cradle your little one up to 32″ or 35 pounds, which ever comes first. Elizabeth is 14 months old and she is 29″ and 19 pounds. So I am frantically researching our next travel product options. After a lot of online research, I have come to the conclusion that our next move will be another expensive one and I completely think it is unnecessary. I believe wholeheartedly that there are not enough affordable child travel product options suitable for ride share service customers. Eight years ago Volvo came out with a concept product that would revolutionize child travel, an inflatable car seat. As far as I know this is still not on the market, but I bet if it were – it would be outrageously expensive. What is on the market however is a folding car seat. To me, it looks like a HiFold MiFold child booster seat and they threw on a 5 point chest harness. Genius. Simple! However it is at a price point way higher than average, but again (like the Doona) there is nothing like it on the market. I will still need to obtain a stroller and make sure that the under-carriage can accommodate a bulky item such as the folded car seat. The future looks a bit difficult at this point and I know things will get better eventually. I won’t need a stroller forever or a car seat, but for the time being these are the problems that face me in the first fourteen months of being a blind mom. I will always be solving problems because of my superpower called foresight. It does however have its perks for good content for the blog. Maybe I should create merch to sell in order to pay for some of these expensive, but practical baby items? Like the new logo? I can put it on a shirt for you!
